Our Mission
The Mission of Engeye Scholars is to support the educational initiative of the Engeye Health Clinic. Specifically, our purpose is to help meet the educational needs of children living in and around Ddegeya Village, Uganda. It is our hope to positively impact the lives of children who may not have the opportunity to seek an adequate education on their own. We will work to do this one village at a time. Please help support this cause and instill hope in the hearts and lives of those less fortunate. Yes, you can make a lasting positive change in a child’s life.

Engeye Scholars: How it Began!
The Engeye Scholars program was inspired by the courage and strength of Susan Nabukenya. Susan was a young Ugandan girl who traveled to the US to receive life-saving surgery at Boston Shriners Hospital. Before receiving her medical treatment, Susan had lost all hope and had been forced to drop out of school. Through Engeye and its supporters, Susan not only received life saving treatment but she returned to Uganda and was enrolled in school for the first time in four years. The friends and supporters she met during her stay in the United States had made a commitment to pay for primary school boarding education costs upon her return to Uganda. This education has provided Susan with l hope for the future. This all important educational opportunity cost is minimal in comparison to the costs of an education in the United States.
From Susan’s experience grew a desire to help other children in Susan’s village. Upon meeting Susan and John Kalule, who accompanied her on her journey to the United States, many of their new United States friends and supporters wanted to give other children in the village the gift of education. As a result, the Engeye Scholars program was started to provide other children with the gift of education through sponsorship. The program now has 23 children in its individual sponsorship program. The program has now expanded to provide broader educational support by helping the local schools to provide a greater number of children with hope through education. Please consider supporting our education initiatives to provide the children and families with opportunities for a bright and productive future through our new school improvement and scholarship program.
