ETC Raises over $10,000 through the Bucks For Books Fundraising Campaign:
The Engeye Teen Connection Board Members recently led a fundraising effort to help purchase textbooks, school supplies and repair schools for children in rural Uganda. The program was inspired by 16 year old Sara Weinman’s visit to Ddegeya village in February. Sara was able to witness firsthand the desperate need at the local schools near the Engeye Health Clinic. The teachers at these schools try to educate their students without textbooks and the most basic school supplies. ETC believes that education provides promise and hope for the children and the families of the village. To provide this hope and promise, Engeye Teen Connection Board Members Sara Weinman, Brian Hickey and Greg Hickey launched a fundraising effort to improve the conditions at these rural schools. ETC's 17 year old Brian Hickey traveled to Uganda in the summer of 2010 to deliver textbooks and school supplies to the needy schools in order to further the education initiatives of Engeye Teen Connection. Greg Hickey is planning on traveling to Uganda in the summer of 2012 to further these goals. Check out Brian's experiences and stories from Uganda at http://engeyeblogs.blogspot.com/
Education is the key to the future for students of all ages. Bright children in and around Ddegeya with great promise lack the basic school supplies and textbooks to help them learn and succeed. You can make a dramatic difference in a rural Ugandan village, and help us extend educational opportunities to needy children. Please consider making a donation. Any amount is appreciated and can do so much. For example: a donation of $50.00 can buy 4 classroom text books. For More Information Visit: www.etcbucksforbooks.org
